The Things People Do

I've been talked into starting a blog by pretty much my whole family. I've been pretty against it because I don't consider myself to be a great writer, although I would like to be one. And mostly my husband and I are pretty private people. But since talking to certain family memebers, I have found myself thinking, "I wish I could write about this." I'm not a mass email type of person and most of the things I want to write about aren't the things you would read in a mass email. So, thus begins my blogging adventure.

In the past three weeks we have been very busy. My husband just graduated with his Masters of Accounting, I won a fussball table, we bought a PS3 (that was all in one weekend), and my husband has been rewiring and fixing up our house.

Yesterday he took out some cupboards in the kitchen to make a fridge hole. The kitchen and the bathroom share a wall, so currently we have a straight shot from the kitchen, through the bathroom and into our bedroom. Good thing we weren't planning on hosting and parties soon.

We were planning to clean out my car (because we were selling it to my husband's mom, and buying her's), build at least part of the fridge hole, and have dinner with some friends.

As I went outside to start the cleaning process, we discovered that some.... person (I can't be too obscene, so you will have to use your imagination) decided to go puddle hopping in our gutter only to miss the gutter and drive over a small section of our lawn. Unfortunately they happened to drive over a sprinkler head as well. Obviously that busted it, along with a good section of the piping. So, as I cleaned out my car, my husband spend a good chunck of time fixing the sprinklers.

After that his mom came over and we made the car swap. We ended up with a 2002 VW Passat and she took our 1993 Buick Skylark. I think we came out better (although we are paying for it.)

During this time of learning the new features and warning her of all the problems, we realized that we were supposed to make a potato dish for dinner with our friends. So I ran to the store and grabbed what I needed, then went home and got it cooking.

As we were getting ready to finalize everything with the cars, we got a phone call from someone who wanted to buy a stove from us (we've had it posted for a while). They live a good 20 miles or more from us, but they wanted it delivered tonight. So we called my husband's brother and he agreed to help.

Dinner was fun, and when we got home my husband's brother came down and they loaded up the stove. As he was getting ready to leave, he called the guy to let him know he was on his way and the guy had aparently decided (about 20-30 min after calling us and saying he wanted to buy our stove) that he didn't want it and had found a different stove. Who does that? We eneded up selling it to him anyway, but at a freakin' $65 discount because my husband's brother didn't want to have to unload it, just to come back down and do it again another day. Grr.

Aside from dinner and a new car, we've dealt with a lot of faceless jerks today. *sigh* The things people do...

Hi J,

How fun! I am glad that you have started a blog. They are kind of addicting. Now.... you need another blog, just for a select few (me among them I hope) that would log into the special secret blog and get to read a little of the literary project that you are working on... that would be fun.

It sounds like you had a really busy day. And the guy with the stove sounds like a jerk. Thanks for sharing.

YEA! Not for your misfortunes, but for the fact that you are . . .um you hate that word. .. I will say "posting"!
I am glad you shared all this with us. I had no idea you were car swapping. The skylark is car that is recognizable. With your husband's car, I look out the window and say, "who is here?" Now I will do that with both cars unless you come visit more often. . . Congrats on the new acquisition!
Sorry for the sprinkler and the stove incident. Some people can be such jerks!
love you

Yea for blogging!!! I'm so excited to see you write - it's always good practice for us aspiring writers to get a little blog action going on.

Love to hear what's going on. Happy you won a füßball table. I'd love to come play!

Now if we can just get Dan to start one... :)

Wow, that wasn't so hard, was it? Now I will now what you guys are up to without making the more virtuous effort of calling you on the phone or even sending you an e-mail. Thanks for catering to my laziness!
